Italian Caprese Sandwich Great for a Picnic

Pin & Save for Later!

Nothing says ‘Flavor of Italy” as an Italian Caprese Sandwich. Made with fully ripe tomatoes, fresh mozzarella and a good quality salami. Dressed with fresh basil and drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and sprinkled with sea salt.

This reminds me of Italian summers, sitting in the meadows in Firenze with family and friends.

The caprese sandwich is the equivalent of the classic American Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

Variations of Caprese Sandwich
This is my go-to Italian Caprese Recipe, but there are lots of tasty ways to change it up.

Here are a few of my favorites:

Toast the bread: Brush the cut side of each piece of bread with olive oil and toast it in the oven or on a grill pan until lightly golden brown. Then, assemble the sandwich!

Panini grilled Caprese sandwich. Assemble the caprese sandwich and brush the outsides of the sandwich with olive oil. Cook the sandwich in the griddle or cast iron skillet.
